Terms of Service

Published: 31 October 2026 · Effective: 31 October 2026
This is a translation. If it differs from the Korean version, the Korean version prevails, except where the law of your country gives you more protection.

The key points

1. Purpose

These terms set out the conditions for using "Walking into Van Gogh" (the "Service"), the web service Float Co., Ltd. ("we") provides at walkingintovangogh.com, and the rights and duties of you and us.

The "Walking into Van Gogh" PC game sold on Steam, and purchases inside it, follow the Steam Subscriber Agreement and that game's own notices, not these terms. Linking a Steam account (section 6) and keeping balances apart (section 9) are covered here.

2. Definitions

  1. "User": anyone who uses the Service, including people who only walk without signing in.
  2. "Member": a user who has signed in with a Google or Apple account or with a sign-in code sent by email.
  3. "Vincent": the conversation character an AI plays, based on Van Gogh's public letters.
  4. "Ask Vincent": sending Vincent one question and receiving one answer to it (text and Vincent's voice). The unit is "1 ask".
  5. "Pass": paid Ask Vincent uses bought on the web.
  6. "Free asks": the free Ask Vincent uses we set and show on screen.
  7. "Room": a group of users walking in the same space together.

3. Posting and changes

  1. These terms can be opened from the menu and footer of the Service's first screen.
  2. We may change these terms within the limits of applicable law, including the Korean Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions and the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce.
  3. When we change them, we post what changes, why, and from when.
    • Changes that are not against your interest: posted at least 7 days before they apply.
    • Changes against your interest or otherwise important (prices, limits, passes, grounds for suspension, personal data, fees or refunds): posted at least 30 days before they apply, and also emailed to members.
  4. New members are bound by the changed terms from the day they are posted.
  5. Existing members are asked to accept the changed terms the first time they sign in after the effective date. You can keep using the Service before you accept. If you do not accept, you may delete your account; any remaining pass is handled under section 11.

4. What the service is

  1. The Service is a 3D web space made from Van Gogh's paintings. You can:
    • Walk: anyone, without signing in.
    • Talk with Vincent: sign-in required.
    • Listen to letters: Vincent reads Van Gogh's letters aloud.
    • Walk together: walk with others in the same room and hear Vincent's answers together.
  2. The Service has no game elements such as scores, rankings, goals, rewards, progress or endings.
  3. The Service is meant to run around the clock, but part or all of it may stop for maintenance, faults, outages of outside services (AI models, payments, sign-in), or the budget limit in section 18. Planned maintenance is announced on screen in advance.

5. AI character and AI voice

  1. Vincent's answers are produced by generative AI. As required by Article 31 of Korea's Framework Act on the Development of Artificial Intelligence and Establishment of Trust, we say so on the conversation screen and the voice screen.
  2. Vincent's voice is a synthetic voice made by AI, not a recording of a real person, and not a reconstruction of Van Gogh's real voice.
  3. Vincent's answers are creative work based on public letters and may be wrong. Do not use them to check facts or as professional (medical, legal, financial or other) advice. Quotes from letters show their source.
  4. Vincent is not the real Van Gogh and has no link to the Van Gogh Museum or the Vincent van Gogh Foundation.

6. Accounts and sign-in

  1. You become a member only by signing in with Google or Apple, or by entering a sign-in code we email you. We never ask for a password. An email sign-in and a Google or Apple sign-in are separate accounts even with the same email address; we do not merge them.
  2. Members may link their own Steam account. The Steam ID is then recorded on the member account. One Steam account links to one member account. Linking does not move web passes or Steam balances either way.
  3. You are responsible for your Google, Apple and Steam accounts and the mailbox you sign in with, and may not lend or sell them. Tell us right away if your account is used by someone else.
  4. We may refuse sign-up, or later suspend or delete an account, if it uses someone else's account, if a person whose use was restricted for breaking these terms signs up again, or if accounts are created in bulk by automated means.

7. Age and minors

  1. The first time you speak to Vincent we ask whether you are 19 or older (the age of majority in Korea). If you do not answer, we treat you as under 19. We use the answer to shape the conversation and notices.
  2. Users under 19 can talk with Vincent within the same free asks.
  3. Children under 14 must have a legal guardian's (parent's) consent before signing in. If we learn that a child under 14 signed up without it, we stop processing that account's personal data and either confirm the guardian's consent or delete the account.
  4. Minors need a legal guardian's consent to pay. A payment made without it can be cancelled under section 12.

8. Free use

  1. Walking, walking together and hearing Vincent's answers in your room are free.
  2. Members get the free asks we set and show on screen, within the daily free budget in section 18. At present: 3 once, when you sign up (asking by voice included); after that, passes at KRW 100 per ask (VAT included). The sign-up free asks are given once per sign-in identity (other spellings of the same mailbox, such as added dots or a "+" suffix, count as the same) and once per device, and only up to a daily number per connecting IP address; past that number, asking needs a pass. Deleting your account and signing up again does not give them again.
  3. Free asks are the trial use described in Article 21-2 of the Enforcement Decree of the Korean Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, so you can try the Service before buying.
  4. Free asks are counted per account and per channel (web or Steam). Free asks cannot be exchanged for money or transferred.
  5. Changes to free asks are announced under section 3.

9. Ask Vincent passes

  1. We sell Ask Vincent passes in packs. One ask is one question and one answer from Vincent (text and voice).
  2. Pack sizes, prices and payment methods are shown on the purchase screen before you buy, together with the withdrawal terms in section 11. Current prices:
    • In Korea: KRW 100 per ask (VAT included), in packs of 10, 30 and 100
    • Outside Korea: USD 5 for a pack of 35 asks (Paddle's checkout shows the final amount including your country's taxes)
    Price changes are announced 30 days in advance under section 3 and do not affect passes already bought.
  3. Payment works as follows. After payment we confirm the order on screen, and the payment provider (Toss Payments in Korea, Paddle outside Korea) emails you its receipt.
    • Purchases in Korea: we are the seller, and you pay through the checkout of our contracted payment gateway, Toss Payments.
    • Purchases outside Korea: Paddle.com Market Limited (United Kingdom, "Paddle") is the seller of record (Merchant of Record). Paddle takes the payment, issues the receipt and handles VAT or sales tax in your country. Paddle's buyer terms apply to the payment itself; you can read them in Paddle's checkout. What a pass is, how it is used and any restrictions follow these terms, and the refund promises in sections 11 and 12 apply equally to purchases outside Korea (refunds are processed through Paddle).
    Only the payment methods shown in each checkout are available.
  4. Passes have no random element. You get exactly what you buy.
  5. Passes cannot be cashed out, exchanged, transferred to another account or given as gifts, except for refunds under sections 11 and 12.
  6. Passes bought on the web are used only on the web Service; passes bought on Steam are used only in the Steam game. Linking a Steam account does not merge or move them.
  7. A pass is valid for 5 years from the day it was last used (or from the purchase date if never used). After that, any remaining asks are refunded on request. The validity period is also shown on the purchase screen.
  8. If we close the Service for good, we give 30 days' notice and refund the value of every remaining ask, whenever it was bought.

10. Charging and the queue

  1. One ask is used only when Vincent's answer is delivered to you. Nothing is charged if no answer arrives, if an error or outage cuts the answer, or if you cancel before the answer. Any ask held while processing is given back.
  2. Free asks are used first, then passes. If your passes come from several orders, the order whose withdrawal period ends first is used first.
  3. Questions asked "for everyone" in a room join the room's queue and are answered in turn. Each person may have one question in the queue at a time. If the queue is full, a question may be refused, and nothing is charged.
  4. You can cancel a waiting question any time before its answer. A cancelled question is never charged, free or paid. Leaving the room cancels your waiting question.
  5. If you ask for a letter in a language that has no translation yet, you may wait while it is translated. Translation itself never uses a pass.
  6. Your remaining free asks and passes are shown on the conversation screen.

11. Withdrawal and refunds

  1. Until 24:00 (Korea time) on the 7th day after purchase, we refund the asks in an order that are still unused. The refund is the number of unused asks × the price of one ask (KRW 100 for payments in Korea, VAT included), paid back as a partial cancellation of the payment (Article 17 of the Korean Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce).
  2. Asks already used cannot be withdrawn or refunded, because each ask is digital content whose supply is complete once used (Article 17(2)5 of that Act). We show this on the purchase screen and let you try the Service first with free asks (section 8).
  3. If a pass is different from how it was described or advertised, or from the contract, you can withdraw within 3 months of receiving it and within 30 days of when you learned or could have learned of it (Article 17(3) of that Act).
  4. Ask for withdrawal or a refund through "Refunds and minors' cancellations" in the Service or the contact in section 25, with your account or payment details so we can find the order.
  5. We refund within 3 business days of the withdrawal (Article 18(2) of that Act). For card payments we ask the payment provider (Toss Payments in Korea, Paddle outside Korea) to cancel the charge right away; when it shows on your statement depends on your card issuer. If we are late, we pay the statutory late interest.
  6. Refunded asks are taken back.
  7. If you could not use a pass because of our fault, such as an outage, we give back the asks or refund them.

12. Minors' cancellations

  1. If a minor paid without a legal guardian's consent, the minor or the guardian can cancel the purchase (Korean Civil Act, Article 5). We refund a minor's purchase in full, with no time limit, and take back any remaining passes. We do not charge for, or deduct, asks already used.
  2. This cancellation is available at any time, regardless of the 7-day period in section 11.
  3. It is not available if the minor used deception to make us believe they were an adult or had the guardian's consent (Korean Civil Act, Article 17). A wrong answer to a simple age question alone may not count as deception; we look at the circumstances.
  4. We may ask for the minimum proof needed to confirm the minor and the guardian. That proof is destroyed as soon as the case is closed.
  5. Timing and method of the refund are as in section 11(5) and (6).

13. Walking together and bubbles

  1. People in the same room can see each other's figure and position, questions asked for everyone (as text bubbles) and Vincent's answers.
  2. Others never see your account details (email, Google, Apple or Steam IDs). Inside a room you are shown by a temporary label used only in that room.
  3. Your voice is never sent to other users. If you ask by voice, others see only the text bubble it was turned into.
  4. Questions asked "just for me" and their answers go only to you.
  5. Because bubbles are seen by others, we may automatically hide or block abusive language, personal data or illegal content in them.

14. Voice input

  1. You may speak to Vincent with your microphone if you want. We show an explanation before the microphone turns on, and you can use everything with text only.
  2. What you say is turned into text and the recording is deleted immediately. We do not store recordings and do not identify people by their voice.
  3. How this works and who turns speech into text is set out in the privacy policy.

15. Letters and translations

  1. Vincent reads from public-domain editions of Van Gogh's letters, in the language of the person who asked. If there is no translation in that language, an AI translates it from the original. AI translations may contain mistakes.
  2. AI translations are stored for later requests. No information about who asked is attached to them.
  3. Some letters come from very hard times in Van Gogh's life. Before reading such a letter, Vincent says one line to let you know.

16. Your duties and prohibited acts

You must not:

  1. use another person's account or personal data, or pretend to be someone else;
  2. harass other users or post hateful, discriminatory, obscene or violent content in bubbles or questions;
  3. post your own or anyone's contact details, address, ID numbers or other personal data in bubbles;
  4. repeatedly try to get around the AI character's safety rules (prompt injection, pushing it out of character and the like);
  5. send questions in bulk with bots, scripts or other automation, or put excessive load on our servers;
  6. trick or bypass security, usage limits, or the payment and refund process (including unjustified chargebacks after use and using several accounts to collect free asks again and again);
  7. resell the Service or Vincent's answers commercially without our permission, or present them as made by us or by the Van Gogh Museum when they are not;
  8. reverse-engineer the Service or infringe our intellectual property;
  9. do anything else that breaks the law or these terms.

17. Safety, automated detection, restrictions

  1. To protect the Service and its users, we automatically classify questions and bubbles to filter dangerous content, and may set per-minute and per-hour limits per account, device and network address. Past a limit, wait a moment and try again.
  2. If automated detection or a report suggests a breach of section 16, we may hide the question or bubble and then, step by step, warn, suspend for a period, or delete the account. Serious or clearly illegal breaches may lead to immediate suspension.
  3. If there is a security risk such as account takeover, payment fraud or an attack, we may first pause the account, device or connection and tell you why afterwards.
  4. A restricted member may ask why and may object. If the objection is justified we lift the restriction at once and give back any passes you could not use during it.
  5. Deleting an account for a breach does not take away your statutory rights to withdraw and get refunds.

18. Budget limits, changes and shutdown

  1. AI conversation and translation cost us outside AI-model fees, so we keep a daily operating budget. When it is reached, we may reduce or pause free Ask Vincent, AI answers for free users and new AI translations, and use prepared answers or stored translations or original texts instead.
  2. Free Ask Vincent has its own daily free budget. When the day's free budget is used up, free questions stop for that day, whatever free asks you have left, and we tell you so ("Today's free questions are used up"). They come back the next day.
  3. Asks paid for with a pass continue even when the budget limit is reached. If we cannot provide them because of an outage, nothing is charged.
  4. We may change parts of the Service for operational or technical reasons. Important changes against your interest are announced within the periods in section 3.
  5. We may end the whole Service for unavoidable reasons such as closing the business, natural disasters or the end of an outside service. We give 30 days' notice (or tell you right after, in an emergency) and refund remaining passes under section 9(8).

19. Crisis support

If a question shows signs of crisis such as self-harm or suicide, we show helpline information first instead of Vincent's answer. This never uses a pass. The Service does not replace counselling or treatment. If you are in danger, call your local emergency number now, or find a helpline at findahelpline.com.

20. Rights

  1. Van Gogh's paintings and the original letter texts are in the public domain. The 3D spaces, images, voices, translations, screens and software we made from them belong to us.
  2. You may take screenshots and share Vincent's answers for personal, non-commercial enjoyment. Please do not hide that Vincent is an AI character when you do.
  3. Your questions and bubbles remain yours. You allow us to process them as needed to run the Service (making answers, showing them in your room, safety checks). We do not use them in advertising or to train AI.

21. Our liability

  1. We try to provide the Service reliably under the law and these terms.
  2. We are not liable for loss caused without our intent or negligence, such as natural disasters, your own fault, or outages of outside services beyond our control.
  3. Vincent's answers are AI-made creative work and we do not guarantee their accuracy. Unless we acted intentionally or negligently, we are not liable for what results from treating them as fact or professional advice.
  4. Nothing here excludes our liability for intent or gross negligence by us or our staff, or reduces consumer rights the law guarantees.

22. Deleting your account

  1. You can leave at any time with "Delete account" in the account menu.
  2. Deleting your account immediately removes your email, Google/Apple/email sign-in links, Steam link and saved position. Purchase and refund records are kept for the legal period as anonymous records that no longer point to you (see the privacy policy).
  3. After deletion, remaining free asks and passes can no longer be used. If any pass is still refundable, ask for the refund first. After deletion we can refund through support only if the order can be found from the payment details.

23. Notices

We send notices through on-screen announcements or to the email you signed in with. Notices for all members may be given by posting on screen for at least 7 days. Changes under section 3 that are against your interest or important, and matters important to you personally, are also emailed.

24. Governing law and courts

  1. These terms and the use of the Service are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Consumer rights given to you by the law of the country where you live still apply.
  2. We will first try to settle any dispute by talking with you. You may also apply for mediation to the Korea Consumer Agency or the Content Dispute Resolution Committee.
  3. Lawsuits go to the court with jurisdiction under the Korean Civil Procedure Act. If you are a consumer, the court for your address also has jurisdiction.

25. Contact
